Things settle down dramatically this week as most of the seasonal shows are open (Cincy Shakespeare’s limited run of EVERY CHRISTMAS STORY EVER TOLD opens next week) and so there’s just a few things to mention today. First up, tonight will feature the second reading from Queen City Queer Theatre Collective, a new theatre group headed up by Linnea Bond. They will present THE NORMAL HEART featuring a large cast including Dallas Padoven, Matthew Wilson, Charlie Cromer, D’Andre Smith, Mia Vera, James Jones, Andrew Maloney, Jacob Zimmerman, Darnell Pierre Benjamin, and Bond herself. The show is directed by Lindsay Augusta Mercer and will be produced at Below Zero Lounge in Over the Rhine at 7:30 PM. I’ve not seen anything in the publicity materials about cost, so I assume its free to the public. Here’s a link to the FaceBook event
On Tuesday, there will be a CPI reading of a new work called THE CLEANSING, featuring stories of the Civil War. This is at the Aronoff Center for the Arts in the 5/3 Theatre. Tickets are $8. More information can be found here.
Also this week is the opening of SOLDIER’S CHRISTMAS at NKU as a collaboration of Actors & Playwrights Collaborative with New Edgecliff Theatre. It features a couple of my favorites (Carter Bratton, Jared Earland,) as well as Aaron Epstein, Michael Gettinger, Alexa Glaser, Blair Godshall, Robert Macke, Patrick McWilliams, Jeff Miller, Emily Mohler, Torie Pate & Quinn Stiefbold. Robert Allen directs. This show, written by Phil Paradis, has been in development for a couple of years. Here’s a synopsis: “SOLDIER’S CHRISTMAS is an epic tale of war and peace set in Belgium in late December of 1914, dramatizing the Great War’s effects on front-line soldiers as well as on their families at home. This original play with song presents the personal stories of disenchanted, battle-weary British and German soldiers who throw down their rifles, leave the mud of the trenches, and join hands in one of history’s most astonishing Christmas celebrations.” The show opens on Friday and runs for six performances over two weekends. More information can be found here.
Finally on Sunday, Know Theatre’s Jackson Street Market partner, OTRimprov, opens THE NAUGHTY LIST. Using suggestions from the audience, OTRimprov will help you relive your favorite holiday memories as they recreate classic holiday stories and show you what your life could have been if you had received that ONE gift that got away. It’s a different show every night so bring your holiday cheer or your humbug: You decide. The cast features Sean Mette, Dave Powell, Kat Smith, Paul Wilson, and Chris Wesselman. More info is available here.
Of course there are other really great options still running including:

Of that list (and from what I’ve personally seen, my must sees are A CHRISTMAS CAROL and THE EIGHT: REINDEER MONOLOGUES (very adult content).
